During my time home from university over the Easter break, I spent the days moving into my new family home. Our new house came with a flock of chickens that had been living there for years. We instantly fell in love. so much so that we went out and got more. I decided to rescue two ex-battery hens. Kylie and Dani Minogue were the names I gave my new girls. We bonded very quickly. They would follow me everywhere - perching on my shoulder or falling asleep in my arms. It was amazing to see their feathers grow back and their colours bloom. They have since passed, as chickens do, but I think of my weird girls often. I think we helped each other navigate a very strange time in our lives.
